Editing a magazine is exhilarating, hilarious, challenging, all-consuming, complex. And that's just before lunch.
From February 2003 - October 2006 I was the Editor of Virgin Blue Voyeur, an inflight magazine with sass, style
and sound business advice. When the opportunity was first offered to me I seem to recall my answer went something like, “Are lemons yellow? Is the ocean wet?”.
Combining my two great passions - travel and magazine publishing - was a dream come true. People often asked me what it's really like to edit a magazine. In a word: fabulous. I liken the role of editor to an orchestra conductor. It was my job to set the tempo and know the score. The fantastically talented team of writers, artists, photographers, sub-editors and production staff then got on with creating beautiful music.

Editing a magazine for a dynamic and successful airline like Virgin Blue has more than its fair share of rewards. During the time I was at the helm Virgin Blue underwent an astonishing growth spurt, with the number of destinations mushrooming to its current 32, including leisure hotspots in the South Pacific and New Zealand. I was fortunate to experience many of these destinations firsthand, often travelling over on the legendary inaugural flights.
When I completed my final sign-off on the November
2006 issue, Virgin Blue Voyeur was experiencing record circulation and readership, advertising revenue and book size. I can't wait to watch it grow from strength to strength under the guidance of the new editorial team.
